🔮 BaZi Reading
Four Pillars of Destiny — Discover your Five Elements balance
What is BaZi?
BaZi (八字), meaning "Eight Characters," is a 3,000-year-old Chinese divination system also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny. Your birth date and time are converted into four pillars — Year, Month, Day, and Hour — each containing a Heavenly Stem (天干) and an Earthly Branch (地支), producing 8 characters total. These characters map to the Five Elements (五行: Metal 金, Wood 木, Water 水, Fire 火, Earth 土) and reveal your elemental composition, personality traits, life cycles, and destiny patterns.
History & Origin
BaZi originated from the Chinese calendar system during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE), which used Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches to mark time. The system was formalized for destiny reading during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 CE) by Li Xuzhong, and further refined by Master Xu Ziping in the Song Dynasty (960–1279 CE), whose methods form the basis of modern BaZi practice. It remains the most widely used Chinese destiny system, applied to career guidance, relationship compatibility, health insights, and timing for important decisions.
How to Use This Reading
1. Enter your birth data — Exact birth time is crucial because the Hour Pillar changes every 2 hours. An incorrect time shifts your entire reading.
2. Identify your Day Master (日主) — The Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar represents your core self. Everything in the chart is interpreted relative to this stem.
3. Check your Five Elements distribution — Look for deficient (lacking), weak (low), or dominant (excessive) elements. Balance is the goal.
4. Review crystal recommendations — Crystals associated with your deficient or weak elements can help restore energetic balance.
5. Consider timing — BaZi luck pillars (大运) change approximately every 10 years, shifting the elemental influences in your life.
Key Terminology
The Ten Gods (十神)
The Ten Gods describe the relationship between your Day Master and other elements, revealing different aspects of life:
Five Elements Interactions
相生 Generating Cycle (生)
Wood → Fire → Earth → Metal → Water → Wood. Each element nourishes and supports the next, creating a productive flow of energy.
相克 Controlling Cycle (克)
Wood → Earth → Water → Fire → Metal → Wood. Each element restrains and controls another, maintaining balance through opposition.
Element is nearly absent — may cause weakness in associated life areas
Element is below average — needs strengthening for balance
Element is strongest — provides strength but may overwhelm others
Interpretation Tips
✦ The Day Master is always the reference point. All Ten Gods are determined by the relationship of other elements to your Day Master.
✦ Balance is the ideal. A chart with all five elements represented in reasonable proportions is considered most fortunate.
✦ Missing elements can be supplemented. Through crystals, colors, directions, and activities associated with the deficient element.
✦ Hidden stems matter. The Earthly Branches contain hidden stems that may be more influential than the visible stems in some charts.
✦ Timing changes everything. Your luck pillars (大运) and annual pillars (流年) bring different elements into play at different life stages.
